bullet

During a Men's amateur game, a defender is fouled by an attacker just outside his penalty area.

bullet

There is some confrontation between the two opponent players, but they are quickly separated by the referee.

bullet

As soon as the kick is taken the defender kissed (yes "KISSED") the attacker on the face.

bullet

The incident is missed by the referee.

bullet

The attacker then ran toward the referee shouting, " The mother ****** kissed me."

bullet

What's your call?

Take a moment to think this through, then

If the attacker's profanity was loud enough to be heard by players and spectators, then the referee has no other choice except to stop the game and send the player off.

bullet

Because the ref did not see the  "kissing" he should consult the AR closest to the incident and the 4th official, if any present, to find out if the defender really "kissed" the attacker. If the answer is positive the referee should caution the defender for unsporting behavior, and restart the game with an indirect free kick in favor of the attacking team for the first infringement (kissing).

bullet

And what should the referee do if his AR and 4th official did not see the kiss? Unfortunately nothing, but at least he should "speak" to the defender.

bullet

Should there be a dismissal? Why can't the referee simply give the attacker s**t for the profanity?

Things to think about in practical refereeing.
